About the Role
Shopify and Shopify Plus power storefronts for brands of every size. At NorthStar, we build and customize those storefronts: Liquid themes from scratch or based on Dawn, Online Store 2.0 sections and app blocks, checkout extensibility, and headless or Storefront API–driven setups when the project calls for it. Our work ships to production and is used by real shoppers every day.
As a Senior Shopify Developer, you'll own the Shopify side of our projects. You'll architect and build themes, extend checkout and cart experiences, integrate with apps and custom backends, and work with the Storefront API and Admin API to deliver exactly what clients need. This is a hands-on senior role: you'll write a lot of Liquid and front-end code, lead by example in reviews, and help level up the team's Shopify and theme practices. If you like building storefronts that convert and care about performance, accessibility, and maintainable theme code, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do
Core responsibilities you'll own from day one.

Build Liquid Themes
Design and develop production Shopify themes: Liquid, JSON templates, sections, and snippets. From net-new themes to deep customizations of Dawn or client themes.

Extend Checkout & Cart
Implement checkout extensibility (UI extensions, post-purchase), cart transforms, and custom storefront experiences that meet client requirements and platform best practices.

Work with Shopify APIs
Use the Storefront API and Admin API (GraphQL and REST) for custom features, headless storefronts, and integrations. Webhooks, theme app extensions, and scripts when needed.

Lead Code Reviews
Review theme and app-extension PRs with a focus on performance, accessibility, and maintainability. Set and uphold standards so our Shopify codebases stay clean.

Integrate Apps & Backends
Connect stores with apps, payment and shipping providers, and custom backends. Build theme app extensions, debug integration issues, and document solutions for the team.

Mentor and Collaborate
Pair with other developers, share Shopify and Liquid best practices, and help the team grow. Communicate clearly in a remote, async-friendly environment.
What We're Looking For
You have deep Shopify and Liquid experience and care about storefronts that perform and convert.
- check_circle 5+ years of frontend or eCommerce development experience, with at least 3+ years focused on Shopify in production
- check_circle Strong Liquid theme development: sections, snippets, JSON templates, Online Store 2.0, and the Shopify theme workflow (CLI, GitHub integration)
- check_circle Hands-on experience with the Shopify Storefront API and Admin API (GraphQL and REST) for custom features and integrations
- check_circle Solid HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals; responsive design and cross-browser compatibility for storefronts
- check_circle Experience with checkout extensibility, theme app extensions, or headless storefronts on Shopify
- check_circle Strong written communication and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote team
Nice to Have

- check_circle Shopify Plus experience: Script Editor, Launchpad, Flow, or B2B features
- check_circle Familiarity with headless storefronts (e.g., Next.js, Remix, or React) consuming the Storefront API
- check_circle Experience building or customizing Shopify apps (Node, Ruby, or other runtimes)
- check_circle Knowledge of SEO, Core Web Vitals, and performance optimization for Shopify storefronts
