Sr. SEO Specialist
About the Role
Organic search is a core growth channel for the eCommerce brands we work with. At NorthStar, we don’t just build storefronts — we help them rank. That means technical SEO that works with Shopify, BigCommerce, and headless setups; on-page optimization that converts; and content strategy that supports long-term traffic and authority.
As a Senior SEO Specialist, you’ll own the SEO side of our client work. You’ll run audits, define keyword and content roadmaps, fix technical issues in partnership with our developers, and track rankings and traffic so we can show real impact. This is a hands-on senior role: you’ll do the research, write the briefs, and guide implementation. If you like turning data and best practices into measurable organic growth for eCommerce brands, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do
Core responsibilities you'll own from day one.
01
Technical SEO Audits
Audit client sites for crawlability, indexing, Core Web Vitals, structured data, and platform-specific issues on Shopify, BigCommerce, and custom builds.
02
On-Page & Content Strategy
Define keyword strategy, optimize titles and meta, improve internal linking, and create content briefs and calendars that support category and blog SEO.
03
Tracking & Reporting
Set up and maintain rankings, traffic, and conversion tracking. Report clearly to clients and internal teams so we can attribute growth to SEO work.
04
Collaborate with Developers
Work with engineering to fix redirects, schema, site speed, and other technical issues. Translate SEO requirements into clear, actionable tickets.
05
Competitor & Market Research
Analyze competitor SERPs, backlink profiles, and content gaps to inform strategy and prioritize opportunities that move the needle.
06
Mentor and Share Best Practices
Share SEO knowledge with the team, document processes, and help level up how we bake SEO into every project. Communicate clearly in a remote, async environment.
What We're Looking For
You have deep SEO experience and a track record of driving organic growth for product or eCommerce brands.
- check_circle 5+ years of SEO experience, with at least 2–3 years focused on eCommerce, marketplaces, or product-led brands
- check_circle Strong technical SEO: crawl/index issues, Core Web Vitals, structured data, site architecture. Experience with Shopify, BigCommerce, or similar platforms is a plus
- check_circle Proven on-page and content strategy: keyword research, content briefs, internal linking, and optimization that improves rankings and traffic
- check_circle Fluency in Google Search Console, Google Analytics (GA4), and at least one SEO toolset (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Moz, or equivalent)
- check_circle Ability to explain SEO clearly to developers and stakeholders and to turn recommendations into prioritized, actionable work
- check_circle Strong written communication and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote team
Nice to Have
Bonus points; none of these are required to apply.
- check_circle Experience with international SEO (hreflang, multi-region sites) or local SEO
- check_circle Familiarity with Python, SQL, or spreadsheets for large-scale keyword or log analysis
- check_circle Link-building or outreach experience as part of a broader SEO program
- check_circle Previous work in an agency or consultancy serving eCommerce or SaaS clients
What We Offer
Everything you need to do your best work and grow.
- check_circle Fully remote role with flexible hours; work from anywhere in the world
- check_circle Own SEO for real eCommerce brands — your work directly impacts traffic, rankings, and revenue
- check_circle Collaboration with senior developers and designers who care about SEO and performance
- check_circle Competitive compensation and growth path for senior and lead roles
- check_circle Async-friendly culture; work when you're most focused and at your best
- check_circle Structured projects and clear goals so you always know what you're working toward

A modern team building real-world eCommerce at scale
NorthStar is a remote-first engineering team that builds and ships real-world eCommerce applications across all major platforms and marketplaces. We work with BigCommerce, Shopify, Shopify Plus, Amazon, Odoo, ERPNext, and more, helping brands launch, integrate, and scale with confidence.
We're not a typical agency. Our team is hands-on, senior-led, and product-minded. We move fast, write clean code, and take ownership of what we ship. If you want to work on things that are live in production and used by real customers worldwide, this is where you build that experience.
