Sr. React Developer
About the Role
eCommerce storefronts today are React-powered applications — fast, dynamic, and deeply integrated with platforms like BigCommerce, Shopify, and headless commerce APIs. At NorthStar, we build and maintain these frontends for brands that sell at scale. Our React apps handle real traffic, real cart flows, and real checkout experiences every day.
As a Senior React Developer, you'll own the frontend. You'll architect component libraries and pages that ship to production, set standards for performance and accessibility, and work alongside backend engineers and designers to deliver cohesive experiences. This is a hands-on senior role: you'll write a lot of code, lead by example in reviews, and help level up the team's React and TypeScript practices. If you like building things that real users touch and care about performance and maintainability, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do

Architect React Applications
Design and implement React applications for eCommerce storefronts and internal tools — component structure, state management, and integration with commerce APIs.

Ship Production Frontends
Build and maintain production React codebases that power live storefronts. Your code runs in front of real customers and must be fast, accessible, and reliable.

Lead Code Reviews
Review frontend PRs with a focus on patterns, performance, and maintainability. Set and uphold standards so the codebase stays clean and consistent.

Optimize Performance
Tackle bundle size, render performance, and Core Web Vitals. Ensure storefronts load quickly and feel responsive across devices and networks.

Integrate with Commerce APIs
Work with REST and GraphQL APIs from BigCommerce, Shopify, and custom backends. Model data, handle loading and error states, and keep UI in sync with backend.

Mentor and Collaborate
Pair with other developers, share best practices, and help the team grow. Communicate clearly in a remote, async-friendly environment.
What We're Looking For
You have deep React experience and care about building frontends that scale and perform.
- check_circle 5+ years of frontend development experience, with at least 3+ years focused on React in production
- check_circle Strong proficiency in TypeScript — typing components, hooks, and API responses correctly and consistently
- check_circle Solid CSS skills: layout (Flexbox, Grid), responsive design, and styling systems (CSS Modules, Tailwind, or similar)
- check_circle Experience with state management (React context, Redux, Zustand, or equivalent) and data-fetching patterns (REST, GraphQL)
- check_circle Familiarity with build tooling (Vite, Webpack, or similar) and testing (Jest, React Testing Library, or similar)
- check_circle Strong written communication and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote team
Nice to Have
Bonus points; none of these are required to apply.
- check_circle Experience with BigCommerce Stencil, Shopify themes, or headless storefronts (Next.js, Remix, etc.)
- check_circle Knowledge of accessibility (a11y) standards and WCAG compliance for eCommerce flows
- check_circle Experience with GraphQL and schema-driven UI or API integration
- check_circle Contributions to open source or side projects that demonstrate React and frontend skills
