Sr. BigCommerce Developer
About the Role
BigCommerce powers thousands of storefronts for brands that sell B2B and B2C at scale. At NorthStar, we build and customize those storefronts: Stencil themes from the ground up, deep customizations to checkout and catalog, integrations with payment and shipping providers, and headless or API-driven setups when the project calls for it. Our work ships to production and is used by real shoppers every day.
As a Senior BigCommerce Developer, you'll own the BigCommerce side of our projects. You'll architect and build Stencil themes, extend and optimize storefront and admin workflows, and work with the Storefront API and Admin API to deliver exactly what clients need. This is a hands-on senior role: you'll write a lot of theme and script code, lead by example in reviews, and help level up the team's BigCommerce and Stencil practices. If you like building storefronts that convert and care about performance, accessibility, and maintainable theme code, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do
Core responsibilities you'll own from day one.

Build Stencil Themes
Design and develop production Stencil themes: Handlebars, JavaScript, CSS, and component structure. From net-new themes to heavy customizations of existing ones.

Customize Storefront & Checkout
Implement custom layouts, checkout scripts, cart behavior, and catalog experiences that meet client requirements and stay within platform best practices.

Work with BigCommerce APIs
Use the Storefront API and Admin API for data, custom logic, and integrations. GraphQL and REST where appropriate; webhooks and scripts when needed.

Lead Code Reviews
Review theme and script PRs with a focus on performance, accessibility, and maintainability. Set and uphold standards so our BigCommerce codebases stay clean.

Integrate Third-Party Services
Connect stores with payment gateways, shipping providers, analytics, and other apps. Debug integration issues and document solutions for the team.

Mentor and Collaborate
Pair with other developers, share BigCommerce and Stencil best practices, and help the team grow. Communicate clearly in a remote, async-friendly environment.
What We're Looking For
You have deep BigCommerce and Stencil experience and care about storefronts that perform and convert.
- check_circle 5+ years of frontend or eCommerce development experience, with at least 3+ years focused on BigCommerce in production
- check_circle Strong Stencil theme development: Handlebars, JavaScript, CSS, theme structure, and the BigCommerce Stencil CLI and tooling
- check_circle Hands-on experience with the BigCommerce Storefront API and Admin API (REST and/or GraphQL) for custom features and integrations
- check_circle Solid HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals; responsive design and cross-browser compatibility for storefronts
- check_circle Experience with checkout scripts, cart customization, or headless storefront implementations on BigCommerce
- check_circle Strong written communication and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote team

- check_circle Familiarity with headless storefronts (e.g., Next.js or React) consuming the Storefront API
- check_circle Experience with multi-store or B2B/quote workflows on BigCommerce
- check_circle Knowledge of SEO, Core Web Vitals, and performance optimization for storefronts
